- Do your homework on the company, industry, and folks you are meeting
- Confirm the dress code
- Dialogue, not monologue! Smile, show some personality. (An engaged interchange is what allows chemistry to develop.)
- Be succinct and honest
- Be contextually relevant. Highlight similarities and valued aspects of your background.
- Talk in terms of “we”, not “I”. Today’s organizations are flatter and very reliant on collaboration.
- Highlight relevant successes (have 3-5 prepared)
- Be concrete with your accomplishments (quantify the results and impact)
- Do not badmouth prior employers, stay positive!
- Prepare a list of great questions that reflect your insight and interest level
